“If you want to change your society, change yourself!”
The director Bassim Al-Tyaeb developed together with his 20-member team a site-specific study especially designed for the Muntada Theater which is one of Baghdad's Shanashil-houses. Muntada Theater is not a classical theater. Azeize is not a classical theater performance. Azeize plays at nine rooms in this theater house with different scenes and stories, delivering different messages.
Each scene and room of "Azeize" is addressing a different social-critical theme, such as broken home, lost childhood, opressed women, bad education, how war effects the society, suicide, psychological disease, Baghdad is you, sound of music versus sound of bombs, but, also the prediction of a positive future. "Azeize" tries to create an awareness among the audience delivering the message: We only can change the circumstances we are living in with our own hands.
"Azeize" introduced new forms of performing arts to the Iraqi theater community. The play differs to other Iraqi theater performances because of its entertaining and interactive elements, the involvement of the audience and its positive energy.
AZEIZE is a production of the Iraqi independent performing artists group Studio Nuqtah.
